| 1250 | 13" | 27 1/4" | Tunneled 5th | 40/studs | Heel | rosewood | Likely a British knock off. Many-shoed rims such as this were ridiculed as tubs by Stewart The stamp font is not Stewart. The tunneled 5th in lieu of neck peg is a Brit feature and uncharacteristic for Stewart. The tiny heel is uncharacteristic for Stewart. The neck to peghead transition is uncharacteristic for Stewart. Bone nut , if original, is uncharacteristic for Stewart. | 3/5/2019 | £400 | Joe Hornung | |||||||||||

Nameplate on the brace is Universal Favorite with a stamp on the inside of the shell, S.S. Stewart, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The fingerboard is extensively and beautifully inlaid with pearl, silver wire, brass and copper. It has a cherry neck and simple heel of ebony plate. The ivory tailpiece is original and the remainder of the instrument is all original with the exception of the tuning pegs. This instrument has a maple shell with original seal intact. | Sousa Archives, Scott Schwartz | ||||||||||
